This hot dog is the epitome of “sure, why not?” It’s the kind you’d be into when you’re so drunk you’d eat a shoe if it had ketchup and mustard on it. Not the best, but the most. Paul called it “very juicy” but “limp” and “uninspired,” adding that he’d want to “dress it up quite a bit with toppings.” Or perhaps, because of its supreme hot dog-ness, you might want to throw it into a hot dog salad? Like a scientist was put in a lab to create the hot dog that would go into a museum or time capsule, the representative hot dog. In my evaluation, I called this “the most hot dog hot dog.” It has what can only be described as a distinct hot dog essence. What it lacks in snap and complexity, though, it makes up for in intensity. It also has almost no snap, which we found disappointing, but which children who require perfectly uniform food (I was like that as a kid) may appreciate. This is a kid-friendly hot dog that nevertheless doesn’t skimp on flavor, with a slightly smoky taste, an even, delightfully bouncy texture, and a rich, fatty flavor that’s simple and straightforward enough to appeal to young, less sophisticated palates. Its one flaw-that it split in a thin, even line after it was cooked-didn’t affect its juicy texture, so we’ll let it go. That said, it’s supremely delicious served plain, which also makes this hot dog an exceptional option for picky, condiment-avoidant children or for hungry adults in a hurry. I particularly appreciated that their rich, full flavor stood up to toppings of all types-mustard and sauerkraut, hot sauce and mayo, finely chopped kimchi. Unlike Nathan’s dogs at the boardwalk, the ones we tried were skinless, though they still produced a subtle, satisfying snap after roasting. Paul Hope, my fellow evaluator, who writes about grills and cooktops at Consumer Reports, called it “the Goldilocks of hot dogs: crisp skin, subtle spice, uniform texture, and juicy.” I agree on all counts. That full century of expertise is evident in this hot dog. Its founder, Nathan Handwerker, was a Polish immigrant who worked at a Coney Island hot dog stand until he was able to scrounge up enough money to open his own business in 1916. This one comes from one of the oldest hot dog companies in America.

It has to be recommended that you ignore the trailer and a lot of promotional images as it does spoil what should be one hell of a treat. However, for the last 15 minutes, it becomes something else all the more frightening and if you have been lucky enough to not have caught it yet. ’s strength is that for the first hour it plays as a straight-up virus infused zombie flick all enclosed in a small apartment building. They are making a news piece and it does have that feel for the majority of the film. There is even a sequence of Angela and Pablo interviewing residents. It isn’t a case of filming for filming’s sake for a change. The crew are from a new station, so they can get their footage out there to show what the residents have gone through. The reason why the camera is still rolling is more sensible than most as well. The camera is almost in constant movement and characters are sometimes obscured by others as panic sets in. This is a news cameraman after all and he isn’t going to get these fantastic static shots. This is assisted by the film virtually playing in real-time, with only a few jumps in minutes as events unfold.įor the most part is filmed as if it is a news piece. This allows us to focus on these characters trying to escape the building. Sometimes we hear screams and miss the incident. There is a limited number of “lucky breaks” in the cameraman being at the right time for everything. Interestingly and importantly to the success of the film, we do not catch every single thing that happens. Velasco also brings ample amounts of fear to her role and everything Angela, the residents and the firefighters go through is amplified by her presence. Unlike some leads in found footage films, she is supremely likeable, with a charm that carries the opening segments. If it leads to her leaving her late-night filler TV Show When You’re Asleep all the better. She is reporting and thinking of the news piece. Yet she never explicitly says it which allows the idea that she is doing this for the right intentions. Angela is a character that could easily have been written as someone who is only going for the glory and fame of the piece. Manuela Velasco is a revelation here in as she toes the line of a person trying to survive these terrifying events and also trying to record it all for the sake of “journalism”. The supporting cast had a great asset in that the directors only revealed certain things that would happen within a scene, so some responses had to be true to their character. We don’t much to me with them during the chaos, but their little moments in the breather moments work very well. is paced very well and when the film slows itself down it allows you to learn more about the characters and their traits, this is essential to care about the supporting cast. This is a small production with big ideas and a crew that can achieve them. It stands above them due to the sheer claustrophobic nature of the film. It still holds up today long after the waves of found footage films came around. This is a film with a simple plot, with an overused technique, but is done very well. Trapped inside, the television crew – using their cameras to capture the events as they unfold – and the other remaining survivors find themselves pitched into a nightmare of unimaginable proportions. Before long, the virus has taken hold of the entire building, which is cordoned off by the authorities. Upon arrival at an inner-city apartment, the firefighters are viciously attacked by the elderly female occupant, who appears to be in the throes of some sort of viral infection. Ī television film crew, documenting the night shift of a Barcelona fire brigade, get much more than they bargained for when they attend a routine call-out. But when it is done right, it can be a glorious piece of work and that is exactly what Spanish film-makers Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza bring us with the utterly brilliant. Found footage is a sub-genre that is very much derived by horror fans. His 2021 US Open title came at Torrey Pines in relatively nearby San Diego and is one of his five victories, including two this year, in the Golden State. The American and Australian Smith are two of 15 LIV players playing this week, the list including former US Open champions Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson and Martin Kaymer, as well as Sergio Garcia, who returns to major action after qualifying in Austin, Texas. Koepka, who was runner-up to the Spaniard Rahm at Augusta, was imperious in proving some LIV players can still compete at the highest level when he won at Oak Hill last month. There is good reason to expect that trend to continue. Since Fitzpatrick's success, which propelled the 28-year-old from Sheffield into the world's top 10, the following majors have been won by players of world-class pedigree: Cameron Smith (The Open), Rahm (the Masters) and Brooks Koepka (the US PGA Championship). "I'm really rooting for this US Open to rescue us all for a few days from the story that I think everybody knows has been so divisive and I think that the LACC North Course is just the place to do that," said US broadcaster Dan Hicks who leads the NBC commentary team. It is just what the game needs, given the ongoing unrest at the top of men's professional golf. This appears a stage difficult enough for a US Open and if the rough does not prove too ridiculous - always a danger at a US Open - it is sufficiently spectacular to wow those watching. This is a part of the world where big names thrive and stars are born. It is the first time Los Angeles has held the US Open since Ben Hogan won at Riviera 75 years ago. The course has a wonderful flow, building to a tough closing finish where pars will be golden. Scheffler and Morikawa are among the favourites this week on an undulating 7,423-yard par-70 course that is more than fit to stage its maiden major. In 2013 it staged a Pac-12 college event won by current PGA star Max Homa and four years later a strong US team including major winners Scheffler and Collin Morikawa won the Walker Cup there, beating Great Britain and Ireland 19-7. The well-heeled members did not want their golf interrupted.īut following a revamp of the esteemed North Course - which started in 2009 - by leading designer Gil Hanse along with architect and pundit Geoff Shackelford, a slightly more relaxed LACC is now ready to welcome the eyes of the golfing world to their property. In 1982 the club's committee voted 5-4 against accepting the opportunity to hold the US Open four years later. "Dad would have loved to have joined there," Nathanial Crosby, his son and former Walker Cup captain, once said. It is a magnificent course nestling close to Beverly Hills at a club that was once so picky, entertainers - Bing Crosby included - were not welcome. But once the first tee shot is struck, it will be all about the golf.Īnd where better for a blockbuster storyline than Tinseltown itself.įor the first time the US Open is staged in the ultra exclusive Los Angeles Country Club (LACC). No doubt the days building up to Thursday's start will be dominated by talk surrounding implications of this extraordinary deal. The sport remains in tumult after last week's shock announcement of a commercial merger between the PGA Tour and DP World Tour with LIV's backers, the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. This week fans will be hoping for something similar. It was a dramatic finish to a championship that, for its four days, pushed the breakout of the sport's civil war into the background, a glorious tournament that showcased golf in its best light. Fitzpatrick's daring nine-iron approach from a fairway bunker on the closing hole helped him beat a chasing pack that included the reigning Masters champion Scottie Scheffler and former US Open winners Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy. There are tons of mods you can add to the game for a superb experience, but one of my favorite ways to dig into RimWorld is through the use of mods that alter the theme to a medieval aesthetic. All ages of technology coincide on these planets, and the struggle for survival can be harsh as you seek to overcome obstacles like solar storms, plagues, and hoards of man-hunting rabbits. In a vast universe, you are in control of the lives of a number of pawns on a “RimWorld”, a planet far from the core of civilization. The base RimWorld game reads a little like a cross between an Ian M. But as a platform from which to launch your own unique gaming experience, it really is the best.
